On Reframing
Reframing was the last piece I composed for my PhD. I wrote extensively about it in my thesis. Below, you can read an excerpt from my dissertation in which I discuss in detail how the piece was written as well as the musical ideas behind the compositional process. This text corresponds to my thesis’s last chapter. Occasionally, I allude to a few terms I discussed in previous chapters (e.g., Goodman’s concept of exemplification, Hanninen’s notion of recontextualization, or my own understanding of structural and formal networks). If you would like to familiarise yourself with my interpretation of these ideas, you might find it useful to read the rest of the thesis. Nevertheless, although it may sound too technical (or boring) for non-musicians/composers, I believe the text is still quite accessible and hopefully of interest to those wanting to know more about the composition process behind this work.
